Tech Teardown @ the Salesforce Dev Meetup

Last night I attended the (newly re-named) London Salesforce Developers meetup at the very cool 10Gen offices near Old Street.

For anyone thinking that a developer meet up is a daunting experience which is only for the select elite who will shun the newbies – think again… As a fairly green developer, I found myself getting advice from certified technical architects who were more than willing to help me understand the platform and how I could learn more.

This could only have been done in the friendly vibe that the London salesforce developer group provides – no egos, just loads of cool, like-minded people talking about work they are proud of (along with free beer and pizza).

My highlights were:

  1. Hearing what the community is excited about
The open panel gave some real insight into what every one is getting excited about after Dreamforce 12. Mobile is very much the talk of the town.

  2. Salesforce Celebrities
I found myself getting a little starstruck meeting a few of the major Salesforce community celebs, like @Petercoffee and @bob_buzzard, and hearing what they had to say.

  3. Being inspired
Hearing from the panel that getting into mobile development is not a scary thing got me inspired to go home, fire up Xcode and start going through GitHub for some projects.

If you’re a Salesforce developer – or interested in what it’s all about – I highly recommend coming along to the next one!

Tquila’s test drives

We’ve already blogged about how much we love working with our client H. R. Owen.

One of our consultants – Carmine Barbuto, Technical Consultant and car enthusiast – is even more passionate about working with the UK’s pre-eminent luxury vehicle group.

So when he was invited to take a test drive in Stoke Poges a few months ago, Carmine didn’t just take a test drive. He didn’t just take a few photos.

No, Carmine shot a video!

(And if you think that’s cool, you should see him code!)

Tquila + Media = Like

Last night we headed to the Groucho Club with some of the salesforce.com team and key people in the media & communications industry.

Having recently launched our Media & Communications practice, we wanted to spend some time understanding the challenges of clients in the industry.

It was a unique opportunity for key media players to discuss their most pressing challenges, and share their successes.

Kicked off by powerful presentations from salesforce.com clients IDG Communications, GSMA and Cision, the conversation centred around the way that technology – and salesforce.com in particular – enabled companies to overcome pain points. It was a great opportunity for

Four common themes resonated strongly with us:

  • The time is now
The industry is moving very quickly. Delaying decisions have a significant impact on revenue. Stakeholders value quick results – which means working with partners who embrace speed and agility.

  • Look for a solution, not a product
Multiple, unconnected products don’t meet the need anymore. Solving current and future pain points takes centre stage. As such, it’s critical to select the right platform and technology – which includes accommodating future growth.

  • ROI is king
Proving – and maximising – ROI on your investment in CRM is becoming increasingly important. To be truly successful, think beyond the traditional boundaries of CRM and embrace opportunities for collaboration and communication across your organisation.

  • Working with the right people is key
Stakeholders want to engage with partners who understand their business, and who bring more than just a standard approach to the table. Partners who offer a diversity of experience and skills deliver superior results.

The evolution of the Media & Communications industry is set to continue apace. We’ve started the conversation – join in!

Clients + Super cars = Like

Cross-posted from Thoughts from Tquila

Clients + Super cars = LikeWe’re passionate about what we do - and we’re fortunate enough to have partners and clients that we love working with.

But even the hardest-working team needs to have some fun – and being a social kind of company, we love nothing more than sharing the fun with our clients and partners.

Last night, thanks to our very generous client H. R. Owen, we treated some of our partners and clients to a fantastic evening of steak and super cars.

But it wasn’t all play. There were some tough decisions to be made – like whether to test drive the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera or the Ferrari 458 Italia.

Love super cars as much as we do? Check out our test drive photo album on Facebook!

Cloudforce London: An Amazing Event

Ruskin Kerslake, Director of Engagement @ TquilaThoughts on Cloudforce London 2012 from Ruskin Kerslake, Tquila’s Director of Engagement.

Having been in the technology space for more years than I wish to mention, I am continually amazed by the events held by salesforce.com. It is so refreshing to attend an event that allows prospects to talk with customers to truly understand their experiences working salesforce.com and their partners.

This year saw The Social Enterprise message being reinforced. However, it was clear to see how this message has now transitioned into real life examples. As the Engagement Director for Tquila I speak with a lot of companies that now understand the impact social media can have on their business, both good and bad. They understand that they can no longer ignore social and need to be able to adapt both their sales, support and marketing processes to take this into consideration.

Speaking with our customers after the keynote (great job George) it was evident that they want to engage further both with us and salesforce.com to enable their businesses to be become part of the social enterprise. Also, it was great to hear from so many of them that first purchased Salesforce to address more traditional requirements such as sales, service and marketing but are now looking to utilise the power of the force.com platform to enable other areas of their business. It’s the platform amongst other things that really sets the salesforce.com solutions apart from others in the market.

For me personally, it is incredibly exciting to be involved with such an innovative company that’s creating and addressing clients requirements that other technology companies haven’t even thought of yet. Also, it was great to see so much Tquila orange all around, what a difference a year makes.

A great day, a great event, a great company to work with. Roll on Dreamforce 2012.
